High School Learning Support
The Learning Support department aims to provide support from an early age, allowing progress to be made, so that each child can reach his or her full potential. At Preparatory Level and throughout High School the department's priorities lie in supporting the core subjects, particularly literacy and numeracy. At GCSE Level and beyond, support is tailored to the exam options selected. The department develops individual programmes of study with extension, enrichment, reinforcement and consolidation work. This enables all pupils to have access to a broad and balanced curriculum.
Learning support is offered in a variety of ways, including: class support from the co-ordinator during timetabled lessons; individual or group tuition through withdrawal from class; for older students independent learning is encouraged by the completing of tasks set by the learning support co-ordinator. A reduced timetable may be offered to such students. If not, the work would be done at lunchtimes, or at home, and overseen by the co-ordinator.
Where appropriate, we are able to help with the organisation of lessons with a speech therapist or classes at the Dyslexia Institute. Support is also available to pupils with English as a foreign language.
