Sixth Form

Gateways always seeks to maximize the full personal and academic potential of all of its pupils. The quality of teaching and individual attention in the Sixth Form have proven to be outstanding. I would certainly recommend the Gateways Sixth Form to anyone looking to provide their daughter with an excellent all-round educational experience.’

Michael G. Brennan, current Sixth Form parent

The overarching teaching principle for Sixth Form at Gateways School is to ensure that we create a challenging yet supportive learning environment that develops individuals and provides the educational foundation to go forward and achieve in higher education and/or a future profession.

In general we achieve this by choosing a curriculum that will best serve a student moving on to higher education and employment, ensuring our facilities are fit for purpose and by providing opportunities to learn news skills and develop existing ones. Teaching takes place in specialist rooms and groups are small, therefore plenty of individual attention and support is available.

More specifically we achieve this by focusing on understanding the individual learner who has specific goals and needs. Our Personal and Academic Tutors will assist each student to pinpoint her strengths and set goals to develop her abilities. At Gateways no Sixth Form student is anonymous – each student will be supported by teachers, tutors and friends and will give support in return. Each student will be encouraged to develop independent thinking and work towards being an autonomous learner.
