Academic

‘Gateways Sixth Form offers a diverse range of academic and extra-curricular opportunities for student to develop their intellectual and social skills. When coupled with the support of our dedicated teaching staff, it is not surprising we achieve outstanding examination results and university placements.’

Martin Davison, Head of Sixth Form

Sixth Form students are assigned an Academic Tutor to assist and advise with the setting of academic goals. Each student will have the opportunity to meet with her Academic Tutor once a term, to ensure that her goals are being met and her targets are still relevant.

Students enrolled with other Sixth Form providers sometimes find their subject choice limited by timetable clashes or the number of students enrolled on a subject. At Gateways School our focus on the individual extends to ensuring subject choice is not compromised by logistics. We offer a broad range of subjects, and provided you meet the prerequisities, we will ensure you have every opportunity to study the subjects of your choice. To view the full range of subjects available, please view the Subject Information booklet available in Portable Document Format (PDF).

The Gateways School Sixth Form curriculum has been designed to help students develop key skills that can be transferred and applied in higher education, employment and other settings long after students have left the school. As students progress through the Sixth Form, they will be given the opportunity to
enhance and develop the following transferable skills:

  • the ability to access, retrieve, process and use information
  • the ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively
  • the ability to organise and take responsibility
  • the ability to make decisions and take initiative
  • the ability to think critically
  • the ability to learn through reflection.
