Gateways School requires a minimum of six GCSE grades A*, A, B or C or the equivalent for admission to an A Level course. A grade A*, A or B is desirable in the subjects you wish to study.

Most students choose four subjects for AS Level in the Lower Sixth Form and then continue with three to A2 Level in the Upper Sixth Form. A wide range of subjects are available.
Unlike many larger Sixth Forms, Gateways builds timetables around the requests and needs of students, as far as possible. For this reason, initial selection of subjects is made in the spring term of Upper V; although it is possible to make adjustments later if necessary.
The short answer is yes, but Sixth Form students are encouraged to monitor their own progress and compare their own assessments with that of the staff who teach them. Subject teachers update tutors on the current standard of work and effort of each student every term. Meetings with Personal and Academic Tutors help students set relevant targets and enable them to focus on the areas they need to improve and to plan strategies that will help them achieve their potential.
All AS and A2 exams are modular, so external exams will be held in May/June for both the Lower and Upper Sixth Forms. Internal examinations are held in January, immediately after the Christmas break.
Sixth Form students are not expected to wear a uniform. However, they are required to dress smartly in a suit and are allowed to wear make-up and discreet jewellery.
In the instance of a double study period, sixth formers are permitted to work independently from home. Teacher–student relationships are excellent and students are treated with respect
