Gateways School in Harewood is delighted to announce that the Prep school choir has won 2nd prize in the Wharfedale Festival of the Arts in a competition held at the King’s Hall in Ilkley on Friday 18th May.

The choir of 49 girls, aged between 8 and 11, were taking part in the 11 years and under class, competing against schools across Yorkshire who all sang two songs – a prescribed song, Believe, and one of their own choice, Shenandoah. The adjudicator, Dr Vivien Pike, said in her written report that the choir gave “an expressive performance.” The girls were delighted with their achievement.

David Darling, a Music teacher at Gateways School who accompanied them to the event, said: “I was very proud of them and I was quite moved by their performance – they gave everything to it. It was a great experience for them and they seem to have really enjoyed it. ”

Yvonne Wilkinson, Gateways School headmistress, said: “We are delighted at the girls’ achievement in placing second in the competition. They all put in many hours’ practising for the event and all their hard work, dedication and enthusiasm has paid off.”
