High School & Sixth Form Sports Report 02-02-2018

Tues 23rd Jan

Gateways 25-19 Benton Park

A mix team of U14 and U15s were fielded to face Benton Park. This was a league fixture. Considering that many of the girls had never played together, the team seemed to link well. The movement of ball throughout the attacking end was fluid with fast accurate passing into the circle. The shooting was consistent, even when the girls were playing out of position and trying out a new role. Defending was strong, preventing Benton from making attacking plays when it was their center pass but also gaining possession through interceptions.

Gateways 12 – 5 Prince Henry’s

With a few regular team players unavailable to play due to other commitments, the game afforded the opportunity for the other girls to take a more active role in controlling the on-court play. Bella Marsh showed good control when receiving the ball on the move, never once faulting on her footwork. Sophie Brearley was influential in both defence and as Centre where she commanded the attacking play. Corinne Myers showed she continues to gain in confidence and develop a better understanding for the tactical requirements of the game.

Player of the Match Issy Dyer

Gateways 13 – 4 Prince Henry’s

Another good win for the U13 team, strong attacking play and shooting from Penny Leech maximized the opportunities of the team when in possession of the ball. Ellie Buck showed a good level of fitness as Centre, covering the court well and making several interceptions. Sarah Bentley as GS also made added to the score sheet with some impressive distance shots.
