On Friday 29th September, Gateways school supported the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Mrs Wallis, Miss Minshull and Dr Johnson spent the morning laying the tables with all the sweet treats that the staff had brought with them. We all soon came to regret wearing heels as we ferried around all the bakes, tables and decorations from the dining hall to the staff-room, to Youngers and to Littlegates. Thank you once again to Sally Linton [Balloons 2 U] for her help decorating the dining room with green and white balloons.
The day began at 8.30am with a coffee morning for parents and the local community and despite the wet weather, there were a great number of families and parents who came to show their support.
Throughout the day, the pupils had their own cake sales and games. The high school girls baked a wonderful selection of brownies, cakes and cookies and there was another full table of treats ready and waiting for them for first break. Mrs Wallis and Dr Johnson were wonderful collecting all the money at the door to the dining room (even if they had to take their shoes off after a full morning standing!)
The prep children undertook a treasure hunt to find hidden treats around the school as well as juice and cake after lunch. Thank you to all the children for bringing their donations in too and being so well behaved throughout the day despite the copious amounts of sugary snacks!
It was an extremely fun filled day for all pupils, parents and staff! We successfully raised an incredible £783.79 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Please can we say a massive thank you to everybody that baked or bought cakes and to those that came along and donated so generously for such a worthy cause!
