U10 Unihoc v Brackenfield (Friday 2nd February)
U10 – Won 8-4
This was an excellent match with both teams playing at 100% throughout the afternoon. The nature of the game allows for free-flowing attacking play and both teams delivered. Every 6 minutes the players swapped around and, despite always being in front, Gateways were wary of the opposition’s threat on the counter attack. Not until the final 2 periods of the 6 did Gateways stretch their lead into a more comfortable position.
Jamie Cooper, Jack Cobbald and Lucas Kitson were awarded joint players of the match.
U8 Unihoc and football v Aysgarth (Tuesday 6th February)
U8 Unihoc – Won 6-3
U8 Football – Lost 1-4
The U8s played their second fixture in the space of four days against Aysgarth in an afternoon double-header. First up was unihoc. Fresh from their triumph on Friday, they once again started like an express train and were quickly 2 goals in front. The opposition came back into the contest but, as with Friday’s match, Gateways hung on although two late goals made the winning margin look a little flattering!
On when the boots and the thermals as the boys headed outside onto the snowy field. Despite Lucas Kitson thundering the game’s opening goal into the roof of the net the Aysgarth team looked more up for the conditions on this occasion. Slowly they dragged themselves into the match and some hesitant defending allowed Aysgarth to capitalise on their pressure.
Haaris Kiani, Lucas Kitson and Zack Burnley were awarded players of the match as their fight and determined approach never faltered!
Next up, Read School in three days’ time. No rest for the wicked!
