Gateways in the Community
Gateways is fortunate to have outstanding facilities and whenever possible these are made available for community use. The Performing Arts Centre and sports facilities are shared with the local primary school and local junior football teams have used the playing fields for football training and matches. The Sports Hall is also used weekly by two badminton clubs, a netball team and short-tennis Academy.
The school offers a programme of cultural, musical, dramatic and sporting events and regularly invites local schools to attend free day time school performances and share workshops presented by visiting professional companies. For a number of years we have supported the Leeds Piano Competition by providing free rehearsal time using the school’s grand piano.
We have formed many links with local venues, community groups and organisations. Prep pupils have contributed to an art exhibition at Adel Church and the school choir and senior musicians have performed at events at Harewood House and together with drama groups they have entertained residents at local hospices and homes for the elderly. The school
has also acted as a venue for Parish Council meetings.
Through the Community Link programme the school has built up a
mutually beneficial relationship with local
community centres and Sixth Form pupils engage in a range of activities from helping in local primary schools and homes for the elderly to working for charities. Many fundraising events and donations are also made to local, national and international charities.
