Pastoral Care
Pastoral
care is one of Gateways School's acknowledged
strengths. Gateways is a small community where every
member is considered and respected. All staff work
hard to create an environment whereby each
individual can reach her potential academically and
mature emotionally, socially and spiritually. Most
problems are easily solved if they are picked up on
quickly enough. The size of Gateways lends itself to
this process.
The Pastoral Committee is led by the Assistant
Headmistress and its other members are the Pastoral
Heads of Lower School and Upper School and the Head
of Sixth Form
All members of staff are involved in the pastoral
care of pupils and are linked either to Lower
School, Upper School or the Sixth Form. Most full
time staff are Form Tutors and have specific
responsibilities which include the teaching of
Personal, Social and Health Education.
The
pastoral system at Gateways School is based on open
channels of communication. The Pastoral Handbook
states the structures in place within school for
addressing the pastoral needs of the pupils,
outlines the lines of communication available to
staff, parents and pupils and details our systems of
reward and sanction.
