Each
year Prep and High School participate in a range
of activities to raise money for different
charities and organisations. In recent years we
have supported St.Gemma's Hospice in Leeds,
Physcap, Blood Pressure Unit at St James' hospital
in Leeds. In 2005/2006 we are raising money for
the "Make a Wish Foundation" which grants wishes
for children aged 3 - 18 living with life
threatening illnesses
We have fostered a very close relationship with
Queenshill Day Centre in Leeds. In 2005 some of
their senior citizens came to school to teach our
younger pupils how to do yoga and Keep Fit. After
lunch together they talked to us about some of the
games they played when they were young. They also
came to watch the Lower School production of Zoom.
We intend to visit their new day centre later this
year and watch them in their art, music and keep
fit classes.
Other community link activities include:-
-
Tea Party
-
"Name a dog" for the Pakistan Earthquake.
-
Elgarthon
-
Raffle for the Pakistan Earthquake.
-
World Trade Fair
-
Aquaboxes
-
Carol singing to the WI of Harewood
-
Scooterthon
We have also fostered links with Nowell Court, a
refuge centre for mothers and children. We sent
them our Harvest Festival donations and this
Christmas we are sending the families hampers.
We
collected 33 pairs of glasses for Vision Aid
Overseas which provides glasses for children in
Africa.
We are also sponsoring Emma Prentis (Lower V) who
is raising funds for Guide Dogs for the Blind."
Our latest project is to collect buttons for an
exhibition in Huddersfield to mark Holocaust Day
in January 2006. Their aim is to collect 6 million
buttons, each one representing a person who was
killed during the Holocaust.
As a school we enjoy the challenge of raising
money for charities as well as finding out more
about the causes we support, whether they are in
Leeds or on the other side of the world.
