Drama
is integrated into our curriculum, particularly in
English. There are many opportunities for Drama
work throughout each school year, most of which
are not performed to a wider audience. We feel
that performing in a well prepared production is
an important and exciting educational experience
for children. All our productions take place in
the Performing Arts Centre and include every child
in a significant way which helps to build
confidence and self–belief.
Pre-Prep
The children in the Gatehouse Nursery perform an
annual Nativity/Christmas play in December to
parents. Reception, Transition (Year 1) and Lower
I (Year 2) perform an annual Christmas play in
December. This production is a mixture of
performance acting, singing and dance. This may be
based upon the Christmas story or be more
pantomime
in style.
Juniors
The Lower Junior classes, Upper I and Lower II
(Years 3 and 4), perform their annual production
in May. This is usually a musical based
production. Two performances to parents and guests
take place, with one matinee and one evening
performance. All pupils in the Upper Juniors,
Upper II and Lower III (Years 5 and 6) take part
in their annual production in February. There are
usually two evening performances. Examples of
recent productions include: Wind in the Willows,
The Pied Piper of Hamelin, Pinafore Pirates.
LAMDA
Drama is offered to all pupils as an
extracurricular activity. These lessons take place
during the school day, in small groups. Pupils
have the opportunity to enter for LAMDA exams, and
reach high standards in these tests. Pupils
perform exam pieces to parents and their peers.
