Music is integral to the life of the Prep School. We hope it will remain an important part in the children’s lives thereafter. To this end, we aim to encourage children to realise their full potential as musicians, and to see themselves as people with musical ability, developing musicianship skills and enhancing confidence along the way.
All Prep Children sing in one drama/musical
production each year.
Within all of the performing groups we seek to foster a feeling of community, allowing pupils to express their reactions to performances and share enthusiasm. Working in small ensembles gives further opportunities for pupils to develop their organisational and social skills.
In addition to the two weekly lessons, the following extra-curricular music activities take place:
| Junior Choir
for Upper II (Year 5)
and Lower III (Year 6)
| Training Choir
for Upper I (Year 3)
and Lower II (Year 4)
| String Band
| Recorder Club
| Junior Band
All the above ensembles perform in the two annual Prep concerts at Christmas and in the Summer Term.
They also take part in whole school events such as
the House Music Competition, the Individual Music
Competition and assemblies, workshops, festivals
and visits throughout the year. Other performance opportunities include Carols by Candlelight, festival, public concerts, joint concerts with other schools together with opportunities to play for senior citizens in the local community and in assemblies and class lessons.
