Key Stage 1 Curriculum

At Gateways we are keen to help each child reach their full potential, socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically. To achieve this aim our curriculum is based on The National Curriculum at Key Stage 1, but extends the children’s experiences in Music and PE with the use of specialist teaching.

At Key Stage 1 each subject is taught individually, linking cross curricular activities where appropriate.

The subjects covered are listed below:
• English
• Maths
• Science
• ICT
• History
• Geography
• PSHE
• Music
• Art
• Technology
• P.E.

The children receive specialist music teaching for two lessons per week as well as specialist P.E. lessons 3 times a week, which include dance, gym and games. They use the Sports Hall for P.E., and the Music House and Design Technology Room for certain activities. Pupils also attend swimming lessons at Wetherby Pool for one term each year.

Lower I (Year 2) use the ICT suite for a focused ICT lesson and, like Transition (Year 1) they are also given time to use and develop their skills within subject work on their classroom I-desk computers. Interactive whiteboards enhance learning in all classrooms.
