How do I apply to Gateways?
Our application process is simple – there are 4 easy steps.
1. Registration – Firstly you will need to register your child, which you can do via our website here.
2. Taster visit – To get a feel for whether Gateways is the right school for your child, we would like to welcome you for a visit where you can see our excellent facilities, meet the Head and a variety of the teaching staff.
3. Exam – We hold an entrance exam in January, the purpose of which is simply to ascertain where your child is at in terms of their education. It is not a pressurised pass/fail type of exam.
4. Offer – The final part of the process is sending the offer for your child to join us at Gateways and to begin the next stage of their educational journey with us. This is usually sent out the day after the Entrance Examinations.

How do you decide who gets a place at the school?
Gateways is not an academically selective school and so we use an online testing system, in conjunction with school reports and references, simply to find out more detail about the strengths and weaknesses of our applicants. This helps us to identify particular talents as well as areas where we might need to suggest some additional support once the pupil has joined us.

How can I book a visit to see the school?
You can book a visit to see the school and the facilities, meet staff and students and find out why Gateways could be the perfect fit here.

Can I get a prospectus?
You can. Just head to this page and fill in the form and we will send you one!

When should I apply?
We accept applications all year round, just head to this page to register your child!

Can both boys and girls apply?
Yes! Whilst our Early Years and Prep schools have always been co-educational, starting in September 2019 we are accepting applications from boys into Year 7!

How much does it cost?
Find out the latest fee information here.

Do you offer scholarships?
At Gateways we offer scholarships to applicants entering Year 7, Year 9* and Year 12. We have three types – Academic, Sport and Arts awards. The Academic award does not require additional testing since our online tests already adapt and easily highlight the most academically able students. Arts and Sports award are assessed separately but on the same day as the online testing is carried out in order to minimise time away from the child’s current school.
*External applicants only

Are there any transport facilities?
We have 4 different school bus routes with a 5th starting in September 2019 for Harrogate. Find out more information here.
