Nursery - Gateways School

NEXT STEPS Early Years Ages 3-5

Why the Gatehouse?

With use of the whole school facilities and mature staff who understand and appreciate the needs of two year olds through their own time and experience as parents, the children simply could not be better provided for or looked after. Our outstanding Early Years provision also won the 'Best Early Years in School' category at the 2024 Nursery World Awards.

How to apply

Welcome to the Gatehouse Nursery

Welcome to the Gatehouse Nursery; a purpose built stand-alone facility for two year olds where your child can learn, explore and investigate in a secure and nurturing environment. Our dedicated and mature staff work in close partnership with you to understand and enhance the development of your child as an individual learner. Nursery children are very much a part of the wider Gateways community, sharing facilities and interacting with other pupils easing transitions up the school. We warmly invite you to visit the Gatehouse Nursery and see for yourself what we can offer your little one.

A Day in the life of ...

Edith in Nursery

08:30am

Mummy drops me off at the Gatehouse Nursery where I am greeted with a big smile and a warm welcome by my Key Practitioner, Mrs Roth. I hang up my coat and bag.

9:50am

Outdoor fun time! We have lots of outdoor toys to play with and I enjoy playing on the tricycles and see saws, digging in the sand tray, splashing in the water tray and playing football.

11:30am

I love lunch time! We put our aprons on and sit at the table with our friends. We always have a cooked lunch and eat together in the Gatehouse. To help us remember good manners we sing a little song.

12:00pm

After lunch, some of us have a sleep and others do calm activities. Colour sorting, matching and jigsaw puzzles keep us busy until everyone is awake.

2.00pm

We have plenty of space to explore outside and lots of toys. We often go for a toddle waddle around the school field. Today we have another opportunity to explore outdoors and I'm looking after the plants.

3.00pm

We are doing some indoor creative activities now and I’m focusing on painting. We are currently learning about shapes, colours and sizes. I like drawing on the whiteboard too.

5:30pm

After my teatime at 4.15pm, I do some calm activities and enjoy story time. My mummy collects me and Mrs Roth lets her know what I have been up to, what I have eaten and if I took a nap. There’s always time to chat about my interests and how much I have learnt.
